In late April, a group of 15 intrepid divers set off south of the border for Cozumel Mexico! From the club, Donna, Tricia, Joyce, Mike, Brian and one of our newest members Grace joined folks from Indian Valley Scuba and ScubaBoard’s DiveNY for an amazing trip. Cozumel is the premier site for drift diving, offering a high speed thrill ride through crystal clear waters with gorgeous reefs and marine life. A couple days diving in the ocean, it was time to rinse our gear in the fresh water on the main land in the Cenotes. The Cenotes are limestone caverns where the earths crust has broken into underground rivers. While we only explored the “light zone” many of us want to go back and explore the caves! Those members present will talk about their experiences and share pictures from the trip.
Many stories will be told, but you’ll have to bribe them to see the really good pictures.
And don’t forget the raffle for a $25 IVS gift card.
Past Events
Tuesday June 8th
Mike and Lin just got back from Jamaica. Come and hear about all-inclusive vacationing and see pictures from their dives and surface intervals!

Maybe some of you have heard it said “This is a dive trip, not a vacation”! Well, the Couples Negril resort is both a dive trip AND a vacation. It has a nice blend of both. This was their 6th year in a row here and it’s where Mike finally made my decision to get certified in diving a few years back. This time, however, he came equipped with both digital video and still underwater cameras.
For this presentation, he will show off the resort a little and then get right into the diving part. Mike will share some photos and videos as well as some insight into both styles of photography. Yes, you can take a video with a still digital camera, and you can take a still picture with a digital video camera as funny as that sounds. However, there are still advantages for taking videos with a dedicated video camera. And he’ll explain. He is happy he has both.
We will also have a round-table discussion about Scuba Signs – everybody uses them, but not everybody knows what you are trying to say.
And don’t forget the raffle for a $25 IVS gift card.
Tuesday May 11th
A great time was had at Bones Grille. A good size group filled the room.
We heard member Mike Parzynski talk about the joys and challenges of diving from a cruise ship. He recently spent a week in the southern Caribbean and dove four different islands.
We also had a goodbye tribute to Csaba who is founding IVS Sacramento (or at least moving to the left coast for work). Stories and pictures had everybody laughing.
Lynn S. won the $25 IVS gift card raffle.
Tuesday April 13th
Diving in Catalina, CA – One of our members presented on weekend diving on Catalina Island. Catalina is unique diving hot spot, located outside LA. If you have never been there, come hear the insider tips of how to make the most of a dive trip to Catalina! A little island history and solo trip planning will also be included.

Tuesday January 12th
The January meeting had a terrific turnout. Those in attendance heard our guest speaker, Dave Valaika give a great presentation about dive safety and “worst case scenarios”. Elections were held and the 2010 officers are: Donna Raleigh, President; Gary Schiendelman, Vice President; Mike Parzynski, Secretary; Robin Schiendelman, Treasurer. The inaugural raffle for a $25 IVS gift card was also held with the lucky winner being Lynne G.
Tuesday December 8th
We had a good turnout at the December meeting where Gary & Robin showed a photo presentation of their recent trip to Roatan and the TAPS turtle program in Honduras. Following that, there was a roundtable discussion of Boat Diving Etiquette and Faux Pas. Everyone joined in and we all learned something and had a few good laughs too! We asked for suggestions for upcoming meetings and Trish requested more saftey related topics. Everyone agreed so we are following up with “Worse Case Scenarios” at the January meeting. Our call for volunteers was met by Bev who agreed to help set up speakers for our monthly meeting.
Tuesday November 10th
Member Mike P presented on the recent Indian Valley Scuba trip to Key Largo. Reefs and wrecks and underwater pumpkin carving! An impromptu round table discussion on Safety Sausages was held, great informaiton about what, when and how to use them appropriately.
